From £17 to £600,000 - how Robert Jenkins changed the fortunes of The Inn at Fossebridge

Business directors from Gloucestershire heard about the turnaround in the fortunes of The Inn at Fossebridge, near Cirencester when they gathered there for their Institute of Directors regular networking meeting.

Robert Jenkins, owner of the inn for the past four years, explained that it was totally rundown and needed massive refurbishment, most of which has been completed.

"The first day we took £17 and I wondered what I had let myself into", he said. "But in the past 10 months we have topped £600,000 and that has been down to the dedication of everyone connected to the inn - from Liz, my daughter, to the chefs in the kitchen".

Robert welcomed about 30 guests to the drinks and canapés evening...the first of its kind at The Inn at Fossebridge. He was accompanied by wife Veronica and daughter Liz, who also owns a dinner parties at home business, called Mint.

She is a graduate of the Pru Leith cookery school and is working with the chefs to gain distinction in the coming year for the English and International food.

Guests at the event discussed how their businesses are dealing with the credit crunch. Robert Jenkins said:" Don't go into hiding; you must not vanish off the screens, but adopt a really focused marketing strategy to win the business still to be had and to be ready for the better days that will inevitably come".
