The Inn at Fossebridge raises £220 for War Memorials Fund

A fund raising barbecue at The Inn at Fossebridge, to help boost funds to maintain war memorials in Gloucestershire, raised £220.   The event was organised by owner Robert, his daughter Samantha Jenkins and his team after he discovered that some memorials in the county, including the memorial at Northleach, needed some refurbishment.   "Seeing all the TV news about our fallen heroes being returned home through Wootton Bassett really made me conclude we must never forget our troops who fight for freedom in so many war zones", he said.   Tom Stevens and his family from Northleach were guests of honour for the evening. Tom's great, great uncle, John Thomas Stevens, died in the Dardanelle's in the first world war and is named on the Gloucestershire town's market square memorial.   Tom received a copy of the the Harry Patch biography to mark the occasion.   The main fund raiser was a raffle, with prizes given by suppliers and friends of The Inn, which also donated dinner for two.   It is likely that the £220 raised will be spent on adding a parapet to the wall surrounding the memorial at Northleach, to reduce damage caused to it by manoeuvring vehicles.
